10 Powerful Rewards for Following Jesus
Following Jesus has great reward.
Sure, we also know there are costs.
Such as the call to deny our desires and pick up our cross.
Family and friends may disown us.
Or, we can suffer persecution and ridicule.
Still, let’s not forget the powerful rewards. And one greatest reward of all. I list ten rewards here and save the best for last.
(1.) Reward of Eternal and Abundant Life: Following Jesus
“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” (John 10:28)
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)
(2.) Reward of Righteousness
“If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.” (1 John 2:29)
We follow Jesus in a foreign culture of unrighteousness. And those who refuse to follow Him have destruction as their end.
Because “enemies of the cross” make their belly a god and glory in shame. Since their minds are set on earthly things. “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” (See Philippians 3:18-20)
Do we desire to follow Christ and His righteousness, Sunday through Saturday, 24/7?
True disciples not only want to follow Jesus, but also follow through by seeking to stay on the path of righteousness.
(3.) Reward of a Good Shepherd: Following Jesus
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)
Jesus tenderly cares for His sheep with provision, protection and power over the enemy who seeks to devour us. And He gladly leaves the ninety-nine to search for us when we are lost.
(4.) Reward of Jesus Never Forsaking Us
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5b)
Jesus at the great commission, “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20b)
(5.) Reward of Completeness and Wholeness: Following Jesus
No other thing or person on this earth completes us. Jesus alone completes us and makes us whole.
“For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority.” (Colossians 2:9-10 NASB)

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
(7.) Reward of a Spiritual Inheritance: Following Jesus
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24
“If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise.” (Galatians 3:29)
(8.) Reward of Jesus Coming Back for Us
When Jesus left this earth after His resurrection, during His ascension, He made a promise to His closest followers that He will return one day for all who call Him Lord and Savior.
“Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.” (Revelation 22:12)
I’m ready and waiting in anticipation for Jesus to return. Are you?

“But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” (Romans 8:10)
“Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:27b)
(10.) The Greatest Reward is Jesus! We Get Him!
Many believers lose their way in life chasing their dreams, while not fully seeking Christ.
Yet, Jesus is the best reward of all!
No other person or desire or passion we follow brings the same level of reward. Nothing equals Christ. He has no competition.
Jesus is our all in all.
Sadly, following Jesus can become more about a posture instead of a person. Then, we focus on the “how” and “what” instead of the “who.”
But Jesus is the best part.

What an encouraging blogpost! Putting together all of these blessings that we have in Christ is so encouraging! Thank you for compiling this list, Karen!
Thanks, Melinda. Glad it encouraged you. “For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority.” (Colossians 2:9-10 NASB)
With Jesus as our Good Shepherd, we lack for nothing. He is the center of our lives; every good thing we think or do becomes an offshoot of His righteousness.
Blessings, Karen!
Yes, Martha, love, “He is the center of our lives; every good thing we think or do becomes an offshoot of His righteousness.” God bless!
Amen. Jesus is our all in all. 🙂

This is great, Karen! As a romantic who read far too many romance novels as a teen, I used to expect my “soulmate” perfect husband would be the one to complete me. But now I know that while I love my husband completely and absolutely adore him, and I know he’s my human “other half”… I understand he’s NOT my savior. He doesn’t complete me. Jesus completes me, and in our marriage, it’s also a marriage of three (me, Matt, and Jesus), not just us two, me and Matt.
Well said, Jessica. I learned that concept years after we first married, but thankfully it’s a lesson I have continued to let grow in my spirit. Jesus alone completes me and makes me whole. And I’m thankful. Because it takes the expectations and burden off our husbands to meet needs they were never meant to meet.
Jesus is my all in all.
Thank you you Keren.
Glad to join this platform
Appreciate you joining this community. Welcome, glad to have another follower of Jesus to connect with. Jesus is our everything! God bless!
Thank you for the reminder that the blessings of walking with Christ don’t remove the costs, but they do outweigh them.
Couldn’t agree more, Ava. The rewards are immeasurable in knowing Christ as Lord!
Amen Ms. Karen. It’s who He is, not what He brings to us. He gives to all who come to Him. While it may cost us in terms of worldly measures, we gain so much more in spiritual ways. Another great post ma’am. “I have decided to follow Jesus; no turning back, no turning back …” God’s blessings ma’am.
Yes, J.D. The rewards and blessings far outweigh anything we give up to follow Jesus. “The cross before me, the world behind me.” God bless!
Love it. Another amazing and encouraging post Karen. Thanks
Glad this encouraged you, Yvonne. Grateful that when we follow Christ, He’s the greatest reward of all!
Thank you, Karen, for such encouragement. Jesus gives us hope for today and tomorrow! God bless!
And hope is a reward itself.
Karen, Yea Jesus all and I am so thankful for His Love. Thank you for your insights, Scripture, and encouragement.
Me too!
Karen, Yes Jesus is all and I am so thankful for His Love. Thank you for your insights, Scripture, and encouragement.
No other thing or person on this earth completes us. Jesus alone completes us and makes us whole. God bless, Deborah.
I love this list, it is so powerful! #5 and #6 particularly spoke to me, but #10 obviously sums it all up.
Appreciate you reading and commenting. God bless.
Karen, this is an encouraging reminder of the many, many rewards we receive as we follow Christ. I have often said I would not want to live a single day without Him in my life. His Presence with me is everything!
Joanne, I’m just thankful we get Jesus and I pray to stay near to Him always.
I think we have been trained to be nervous about the idea of rewards for serving Christ. But it’s biblical and as long as our hearts and minds are focused on him, it’s good to remember that rewards abound!
Michele, I think you’re right, those ideas in Christianity that we only count our losses. But even Paul said he gained so much more. And so do we!
What a wonderful list of the benefits we receive. And yes, Jesus is the best of all!
Oh, yes He is. Thank you, Debbie.
“The greatest reward is Jesus” – Amen!
Yes!!!! We get Christ!
Amen Karen. I can’t wait, and the rewards of following Jesus are so remarkable that I am in total awe. I really appreciate your message here. Blessings.
Me too, Paula. I’m smitten with Christ.
