Karen – I was wondering if you could help me or maybe one of your followers – my mom is dying – but she has recently started saying a Prayer that in all my 70+ years I have never heard her say – the best I can get from listening her struggling – say – is
I pray not take away the cup – But ask for faith to drink it up – Of it’s draught the last drop drain – And not to bitterly to complain – Dear Lord in moments of despair – Grant me the grace thy will to bear – Not safety Lord but vigilance – Least evil in this world advance – Not shelter sure from every wrong – But against temptation keep me strong – Not spare me Lord the anguished sting – Of hurt the years to all must bring – Bust grant to me when grieve I must – In Thee unfalteringly to trust – And so to live my round of days – To be deserving of Thy Praise
Do you know where this Prayer/Poem came from and did am I hearing my mom correctly – any help/info you could give me would be greatly appreciated – Thanks Diane and Mom/Shirley
Hi Diane, I have not heard that particular prayer/poem. The first few lines came in thought from Jesus’ prayer in the garden about the cross. (Take this cup from me, not my will but yours.) The rest I’m not familiar with but it is beautiful. I even did a search for it on the web-Google, but didn’t find anything. Praying for your mom and for you and your family during these last days, hours. May the Lord’s peace be with you.
God is a Father and a good friend. He is with us in all situations. Let’s continue to give him thanks.
Yes, a thousand Hallelujahs!
