5 Ways People See Jesus in Me

5 Ways People See Jesus in Me

Do people see Jesus in me?

This is a question I often think about.

And I pray this as a request to the Father.

Perhaps this is a desire you hold and pray. Lord, let others see Jesus in me!

Lately, this hope and prayer stays at the forefront of my mind.

So I completed my own soul-searching, looking in the Scriptures, and asking the Holy Spirit to open my spiritual eyes to how others truly see Jesus in me.

Because when Jesus lives in us and we allow the triune God to transform us from the inside out, everything about Him radiates in us and our life.

Then, people see Jesus in us.

Others See Jesus

(1.) In my salvation.

It all begins here. Once we have a salvation experience and personal redemption story, we are new creations (1 Corinthians 5:17). Christ is our Savior.

In Galatians 1, the Apostle Paul recounts his life before Christ. He shares an impressive religious resume and all that he attained. Yet, look at how he ends the chapter.

“And I was still unknown in person to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. They only were hearing it said, ‘He who used to persecute us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.’ And they glorified God because of me.” Galatians 1:22-24 (ESV, emphasis added)

Notice how Paul never wrote that others glorified me because of me. No, God received the glory for the saving work of Jesus in Paul’s life.

We have a story to share, a personal testimony of Jesus saving our soul and giving us eternal life.

(2.) When the Word lives in me.

The Word became flesh, Jesus, the living Word (John 1:1 & 14). Even though He lives in us, the Bible reminds us of the importance to meditate on and know the Scriptures.

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)

And when the devil tempted Jesus in the wilderness, Jesus stated that we would not live by bread (food) alone, but by God’s Word (Matthew 4:4).

Finally, Psalm 119 shows us how knowing God’s Word lights our path (v. 105), helps us not sin (v. 11), gives us hope (v. 43), and makes us walk in freedom (v. 45).

Jesus is our example of knowing and keeping God’s commands. He lives in us as the living Word.

Jesus Seen in Me

(3.) If I dwell in His presence through worship and prayer.

Spending time in the presence of our Lord and Savior changes us. We worship His majesty, glory, splendor and beauty. We submit to His authority. And we praise Him for who He is and thank Him for what He has done.

Also, often this means silently sitting before Him with open hearts to hear from Him and asking the Holy Spirit to fill us with Himself. Still further, we let the lyrics to worship songs permeate our beings and we find joy in His presence (Psalm 16:11).

(4.) Through my love.

Others see Jesus in us through love. The depth of this love includes giving grace to others, a merciful heart, and a forgiving spirit.

“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35 (ESV)

Love is the difference maker to all those in our family, friendships, work, communities, ministries, and who we come in contact with.

People See Jesus

(5.) In my words and actions—the crucified life.

Jesus made it clear, to follow Him, we deny ourselves and take up our cross (Matthew 16:24). Taking up our cross is the crucified life.

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 (ESV)

Carrying our cross, we let Jesus live in and through us, not living for our own interests. So our words, actions, beliefs—everything about us—showcase Jesus Christ for others to see.

Prayer: Lord, help others see Jesus in me. I pray that after being in Your presence, others recognize I have been with Jesus. And Jesus is seen in me from the inside out. Help me meditate on Your Word, tell my Jesus-story, love others deeply, and live the crucified life each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Your list is a good reminder to always look for ways to be Jesus to others. Even/especially when we don’t feel like it.

Karen says:

It’s the Spirit living in us and through us and not trying harder in our own strength. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

That should be the hope of all of us, Karen – that others would always see Jesus in us, and in turn, want that same love, peace and grace in their lives.
Blessings!

Karen says:

Martha, I pray to follow Jesus closely, deny myself and take up my cross (Matthew 16:24).

Yvonne Morgan says:

Thank you for giving us hope and we need to live our life so that others can see the reason for our hope. Thanks Karen

Karen says:

Yes, Yvonne. Carrying our cross, we let Jesus live in and through us, not living for our own interests. So our words, actions, beliefs—everything about us—showcase Jesus Christ for others to see.

This is so convicting. If my talk does not match my walk, not only do others not see Jesus in me, but my life actually discredits what I claim to believe. Ouch!

Karen says:

And I shudder at the thought of my life discrediting what I believe about Jesus.

A beautifully done examination of how Christ shines in our lives and why on each point. Well done in presentation, Karen. We can easily examine our own lives to evaluate our maturity and our obedience.

Karen says:

Melinda, appreciate your encouragement. May Christ be seen in our Jesus-story, in how we love others deeply, and live the crucified life each day.

J.D. Wininger says:

Wishing the world saw Jesus in me more than they do, but pray daily that He help me to not show the world so much that I tarnish His image through my testimony. I’d rather be neutral with moments of brightness as God uses me than shining brightly one minute and then turning noticeably darker the next. I think all that does is confuse and dissuade folks. As always, love the wisdom shared in your posts Ms. Karen. Thank you ma’am.

Karen says:

Good insight here. We want others to see Jesus in us in an authentic way in accordance with the crucified life and not in any fake or stiff or religious pious ways by only adherence to religious rites.

Beautifully put, Karen. As I meditate upon your blog this morning before leaving for work, I realized I need to not only shine Jesus in these ways, but see him in everyone I encounter, from the smallest child who attends my school to the teachers, families, and staff. It has been a stressful week and I know I have been short as I scramble to cover staffing shortages, health concerns, and overarching worry.

Let Christ shine in and through me always, so I can see him in others. Amen Karen.

Karen says:

Candice, that’s a great observation you made, to see Jesus in others as you desire them to see Jesus in you. “Let Christ shine in and through me always, so I can see him in others.”

I pray that I shine the love of Christ in every word and action. I want others to know His love and glory.

Karen says:

Yes, an excellent prayer, Melissa. Lord, Help me meditate on Your Word, tell my Jesus-story, love others deeply, and live the crucified life each day.

Jessica Brodie says:

Excellent!! I hope to model Jesus to my kids and others, but most importantly is how I show Jesus through LOVE, as you say: “grace to others, a merciful heart, and a forgiving spirit.”

Karen says:

Thanks, Jessica. “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35 (ESV)

Joan Davis says:

That is my prayer as well – for others to see Jesus in me! I think the closer we get to Him, the more He’ll rub off on us! And that’s a great thing! So, by developing our relationship with Christ, through prayer, worship and reading His word and serving, our hearts will soften and begin to emulate Him! We may be the only Bible some people read…

Karen says:

I so agree, Joan. The more we fellowship with Christ and let His Word transform us, it can’t help but change us for others to see.

Thank you, Karen, for this great reminder that someone is always watching, and what we do matters. God bless!

Karen says:

Nancy, I pray to have Jesus reflected in me and to be Christ with skin.

Susan Shipe says:

Thought-provoking list!

Karen says:

Lord, help others see Jesus in me.

Karen,

Thank you for this wonderful reminder to live out my faith in such a way that others see Christ. Oh, I pray they do!

Thanks for linking up!

Blessings,
Tammy

Karen says:

Thanks for stopping by, Tammy. I pray to remember, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 (ESV)

Jan says:

It is a certainty that you can clearly see Jesus in others-they radiate. I ask myself the same question….

Karen says:

That’s true, Jan. He permeates us from the inside out.

MARY says:

Yes all is about JESUS CHRIST.
Is not easy road but is life!
He is faithful
1 Corinthians 13:6
Love never fails

Karen says:

It’s not about me or ministry, it’s always about the ONE who said, “Follow Me.”
