7 Things God Wants Us to Know About Hope

7 Things God Wants Us to Know About Hope

God wants us to know.

Hope is one of those words we often overuse in our daily vocabulary. Such as hoping to get something good to eat, for a good income tax return or not have to pay too much, to land a new job, and so on. But God wants us to know more.

We underestimate the power of hope in our lives and in the heavenly realm. Perhaps, you relate to these 7 things God wants us to know.

(1.) God wants us to know we are never far from hope.

Hope. In tragedy, it is there. During dark moments, it covers with light. It soars above despair. Life brings hurt, heartache, and disappointment.

And hard places dissolve every ounce of faith. But in an uncertain world, there is an undeniable hope, an unshakable anchor for our soul. As the unexplainable happens in life, there is a promise that brings hope near.

(2.) We choose between hope-less or hope-filled.

Because the world only offers hope that fades and fizzles away. But God offers the kind of hope still standing when all else fails—a foundation on something outside of this world.

Although hope seems intangible in how it’s not seen or touched, it is something we can know exists and then grab ahold of.

Therefore, the perfect place to search is God’s Word. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Romans 15:13, ESV, emphasis mine)

(3.) God wants us to know we can personally know the Hope-Giver.

“The God of hope” stands as Creator, Almighty, Lord, Holy, Sovereign, and much more.

So it makes perfect sense that the Creator and giver of all things, also holds hope in His hand. A relationship with the heavenly Father intimately acquaints us with the hope of all hopes found in God alone.

(4.) We already possess a glorious and unwavering hope.

We have the ability to hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for God who promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:23).

7 Things God Wants Us to Know About Hope

Since Christ lives in us, a glorious hope also resides in each of us (Colossians 1:27).

(5.) God wants us to know He has given us a living hope.

The heavenly Father brought hope to a hopeless people when He sent Jesus. Hope has a name, Jesus.

Look at 1 Peter chapter 1, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” (verse 3, ESV, emphasis mine)

“Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” (verse 13, ESV, emphasis mine)

(6.) Hopeless never gets the last word.

Let’s recount God’s story of hope. Jesus’ birth took place in a lowly stable. Christ grew and carried out the heavenly Father’s will and mission—even obedience to death on a cross.

Although the forces of darkness celebrated that God’s Son was crucified and dead, it was too early. The light of the world claimed victory over death and the grave. Hope rose from the dead when Jesus Christ conquered the grave. Hallelujah!

God has the last word. Hope has the last word.

Hopeless never gets the last word. God has the last word. Hope has the last word. Share on X

(7.) God wants us to know hope was always coming.

When we accept God’s salvation, it transforms us to over-comers—more than conquerors—and raises us to new life and new hope in the name of Jesus.

“Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory.” 1 Peter 1:21 (NLT, emphasis mine)

You see, hope in Christ was always coming. So we can rest in how hope showed up in the past, remains in our present, and stays around for all our tomorrows.

No matter what happens, no matter how tragic the calamity or how long it troubles us, no matter the sickness or how long it lingers, no matter how many people abandon us, there is always hope. We hope in Christ Jesus. We rest and are comforted by his Spirit. We know that God is always for us, and therefore no one and no thing can really stand against us. We hope in the One who lived, died, and rose for us. There is always hope in Christ.

Karen says:

Always, Melinda. We forever have access to real hope in Jesus Christ. The world only offers hope that fades and fizzles away. But God offers the kind of hope still standing when all else fails—a foundation on something outside of this world.

Loved how you close this:
“Hope showed up in the past, remains in our present, and stays around for all our tomorrows.”
Yes!

Karen says:

I really find comfort in that truth, Ava!

Hope is my word for the year, Karen, so I truly soaked up your thoughts and the scriptures here today. Yes, God is our eternal hope, and hopelessness has been forever defeated.
Blessings!

Karen says:

“God is our eternal hope, and hopelessness has been forever defeated.” Amen, Martha! Thank you!

Nancy E Head says:

Faith means trusting God even when it looks like a situation is hopeless. God is the God of hope. Hebrews 11:1.

Karen says:

Nancy, aren’t faith and hope close spiritual cousins? I’ve always reflected on Hebrews 11:1 and the “assurance of things hoped for.”

Carla says:

I can relate to these
two.. Hopelessness is not the last word and He is our Living Hope. Thank God that darkness, death, could not keep Jesus in the grave! That light can not be put out, so yes we have Hope. It is living and real. Hope is what Jesus gave to us once we were reborn in Him.

Karen says:

A thousand Hallelujahs, Carla. So grateful God has the last word and Jesus is our living hope when our salvation lies in Him.

Yvonne Morgan says:

This is a wonderful post about Hope, something we all need and crave. I pray for many more people to learn of our hope in Christ. I love the photos too. Looks like a beautiful spot. Thanks for sharing Karen.

Karen says:

Thank you, Yvonne. Everyone needs hope.

Amen. We are never far from hope. God provides love and hope in every moment.

And hard places dissolve every ounce of faith. But in an uncertain world, there is an undeniable hope, an unshakable anchor for our soul.

I have spent a lot of my time pondering hope, and realize how crucial it is for our flourishing. Believers have something to offer that no one else can!

Karen says:

Oh, we certainly know the hope of all hopes from the only true hope-giver! I pray we never take that for granted and point others to this great hope.

Joanne Viola says:

“We underestimate the power of hope in our lives and in the heavenly realm.” We truly do, which makes this post such a powerful reminder – We have not been left without hope. “We can rest in how hope showed up in the past, remains in our present, and stays around for all our tomorrows.” And now you have me humming,
“My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.”

Beautiful post!

Karen says:

Thank you, Joanne. Glad this encouraged you and love how you reminded me of the powerful words to that hymn. “The God of hope” stands as Creator, Almighty, Lord, Holy, Sovereign, and much more.

Jessica Brodie says:

I love your point that “we choose between hope-less or hope-filled.” It really is a choice. We do not always see the “sure thing” at the end, but faith is a choice. We don’t have to know HOW it all will turn out OK. We only need to trust that God will handle everything and make it all as it should be.

Karen says:

Yes, it is a choice, Jessica. Hope and faith are similar in how we put our full trust and hope in God. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Romans 15:13, ESV)

Thanks for sharing, Kristi Ann! We have the ability to hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for God who promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:23).

Karen,
The only way I’ve been able to remain hope-filled is to continually be in God’s word each day. Otherwise, it’s easy to let hope slip away. Romans 15:13 hopped out at me as I read. What a wonderful post infused with hope in times when we need it most. Love your pics pointing to scripture!!
Blessings,
Bev xx

Karen says:

Bev, agree that God’s Word keeps us hope-filled and looking to the only true Hope-giver. So thankful hope has a name, Jesus. God bless!

Lisa notes says:

This is excellent, Karen! And so encouraging. “We are never far from hope.” I’m so grateful for these truths, and that we have the true Hope-Giver living in us! I still have to consciously choose hope on those days I forget about it, so your words remind me to keep at it.

Karen says:

Jesus always brings hope near! Yes, we choose hope!

J.D. Wininger says:

Hope. Something that increased in my life each time God delivered what He has promised. The more I trust in Him, the more I can trust in Him. Isn’t that just like God? Only He can make our hope stronger.

Karen says:

True for me too, J.D. As I grow in my trust and faith in the Lord for His faithfulness (even if it looks different than what I expected), my hope also increases.
