For God So Loved: Eternal Life in Jesus

For God So Loved: Eternal Life in Jesus

For God so loved the world. This is one of the sweetest and most powerful phrases in the Bible and in all of time. God loved us (every person) so much, He provided eternal life in His Son.

But not everyone fully understands this wonderful gift. Before I understood my need for salvation and a Savior, I only knew a little about Jesus.

And I desired to be loved—really and truly loved.

Also, I didn’t understand God’s story in sending Jesus, His Son, to die for me

Still, after Jesus saved me at sixteen, my story became a God story.

First, the term saves carries the connotation of a rescue from something or someone.

Second, we need a rescuer, the one who saves, the savior.

According to the Bible, the gospel message is the foundation of these main essentials:

Jesus. The Savior who loves us and takes away the sins of the world.

Salvation. Eternal life provided through the bloodshed of Jesus.

Eternity. Spiritual life after this physical life in either heaven or hell.

So let’s look at a list of scriptures from the Bible that show us our need for salvation and how Jesus saves us because…for God so loved.

For God so loved the world. This is one of the sweetest and most powerful phrases in the Bible and in all of time. God loved us (every person) so much, He provided eternal life in His Son. Share on X

For God So Loved

(1.) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” John 3:16-17 (ESV)

(2.) “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 (ESV)

(3.) “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 (ESV)

(4.) “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 (ESV)

(5.) “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (ESV)

(6.) “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” Romans 10:9-10 (ESV)

I’ve heard sin explained as missing the mark of God, falling short of the holiness of God or not conforming to God’s laws and ways. Read, Don Stewart :: What Is Sin?, Blue Letter Bible.

But God loved us still and sent Jesus to take our sins on Himself on the cross and provide the blood sacrifice to save us, to cover our sin.

Eternal Life in Jesus

(7.) “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 (ESV)

(8.) Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 (ESV)

(9.) “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV)

(10.) “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:4 (ESV)

Believing that Jesus died for our sins, rose from the dead and confessing Him as Lord of our life, saves us from spiritual death, giving us salvation, eternal life in Christ.

For God so Loved, Salvation prayer:

God, Thank you for loving me. Please forgive me for my sins. I believe Jesus Christ died to give me eternal life. Thank You for Your mercy and grace, and for the gift salvation. I accept Jesus as Lord and invite Him to live and reign in my heart and life. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

God, Thank you for loving me. Please forgive me for my sins. I believe Jesus Christ died to give me eternal life. I accept Jesus as Lord and invite Him to live and reign in my heart and life. In the name of Jesus, Amen.  Share on X

Danny and I recently learned the new Christian song, 3:16, by Anne Wilson to sing at our church worship. It is beautiful beyond description and your post here, Karen, captures the essence of what this verse means to the life and salvation that Jesus offers to us. JD Wininger says:

Such a great exposition on this oft-heard Scripture verse. I often think of how unlovable I am, yet He loved me that much. Humbling for sure. It always gives me cause to praise Him when I consider He deemed me with the cost He paid.

Karen says:

Well said, JD. Sometimes we forget just how great the love of God is and familiar verses lose their power. Yet, we love because He first loved us. The whole foundation of our Christian faith is based on God’s love. God bless!
