His Name May Not Go Viral: But He’s Jesus
His name may not go viral. He may never receive the most likes or the popular vote.
But He is high and lifted up. Jesus.
His names…
His Name: Redeemer
Light of the world. “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 (ESV)
We recognized Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr day this week. One of his well-known quotes: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”
Isn’t it amazing how that quote points to Jesus himself.
The Resurrection and the Life. “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.” John 11:25 (ESV)
Redeemer. “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.” Job 19:25 (ESV)
Even in the midst of the enemy attacking Job in all areas of his life and his very life and breath, Job still recognizes the Lord as “my Redeemer” who lives. He’s a living God.

Cornerstone. Jesus as the cornerstone is seen in Psalm 118, Isaiah 28, several of the gospels and Ephesians 2.
“For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:18-22 (ESV)
The Good Shepherd. A good shepherd cares for his sheep, lovingly leading every sheep and rescuing them from predators and danger. Jesus not only leaves the 99 to find the 1 lost sheep, but He gave His life for the sheep.
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” John 10:11 (ESV)
Bread of Life. “Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” John 6:35 (ESV)
Founder and Perfecter of our faith. “Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2 (ESV)
His Name: Name Above all Names.
Ancient of Days. “As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire.” Daniel 7:9 (ESV)
Risen Messiah. “He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.” Matthew 28:6 (ESV)
Name above all names. Jesus is the Name above all names. Even above earthly kings and heavenly beings. There is no other name above Jesus.
“And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:8-11 (ESV)
Jesus
He may not be iconic. But He’s Jesus.
His name doesn’t blow up social media. But He’s Jesus.
He will never get the popular vote. But He’s Jesus.
His name remains controversial. But He’s Jesus.
His name may not go viral or receive the most likes. But He’s Jesus.
