There’s Never Emergency Meetings in Heaven

There's Never Emergency Meetings in Heaven, Adobe SparkI told you. There’s no emergency meetings in heaven.

I glanced at the clock in the hospital’s surgical waiting room. My heart raced faster than the second hand.

My daughter, Megan, needed a cyst removed from the back of her leg. She was only five-years-old at the time.

After a failed attempt in the surgeon’s medical office, we scheduled the procedure at the hospital.

Besides, what were they thinking? Expect a young child to lay on her stomach for medical staff to numb and perform the incision, removal, and stitching all while conscious? Really?

But my husband and I heard her cries and screams echo down the hallway.

So, the doctor advised to move to plan B—under anesthesia at the hospital. “She’s not going to cooperate for us to do it here at our offices.”

Well doc, I could have told you that.

Yet, I wished for another option besides deep sedation, not fond of plan A or B. Still, the cyst grew over the year the pediatrician said to watch it.

The cyst needed to come out. And it needed testing for cancer. I worried and fretted and paced.

You see, I’m a floor pacer, panicking in body and spirit. Especially with my children and family.

Sweet relief washed over me when the surgery concluded and Megan woke up. A happy dance ensued when the lab results showed a benign cyst…one grateful mama!

And plan B became the best option after all. Cyst roots had grown and spread deep into the calf’s muscle tissue. Surgery in the surgeon’s office could have turned dangerous and painful—even with a cooperative child.

A few years later, my husband accepted a youth pastor position and we moved to a new town. Our lead pastor was David Landrith.

I’ll forever remember a thought he shared from his seminary professor in a sermon.

“There’s never been an emergency meeting of the trinity.”

~ God never paces heaven’s floor.

~ Jesus never wrings His nail-scarred hands in worry.

~ The Holy Spirit never declares a state of emergency over heaven’s intercom due to our circumstances.

No matter how dire our lives may seem. Jumping on an urgent conference call is not necessary with the triune God. There’s absolutely no hint of fear, nervousness, or frenzied panic in the heavenly realm.

Because God is seated on His throne. He is in control. Even when plan A and plan B are different than what we had in mind.

Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne. Revelation 4:2 NASB

No Emergencies in Heaven

We were privileged to link ministry arms once again with David and his wife, Jennifer, along with their kids for a year at another church.

There's Never Emergency Meetings in Heaven, by Adobe SparkMy daughter grew into an eighth grader and our son, a fourth grader. When we moved to our present location, we kept in touch with the Landrith family.

Then the unthinkable happened. Pastor David Landrith was diagnosed with cancer and went to heaven in 2014.

Until the end, he continued to place his trust in God’s faithfulness and sovereignty.

I imagine David in God’s presence looking down at us saying, “I told you. There’s no emergency meetings in heaven.”

Relaying the sentiment to others, helps keep the words close to my heart during troubled times.

Heaven doesn’t have emergency meetings—ever. Let the words resonate deep in your soul.

No matter what happens, we trust the Lord’s faithfulness, timing, and His perfect ways.

The Lord is large and in charge—always. In the unknown and heartaches of life, that assurance brings us hope in His faithfulness. Today and every day. Share on X

This is so true. I’m going to keep this quote for use later (which is really just my way of politely saying I’m stealing it).
It’s amazing how dire my circumstances feel when I’m in them and how slow God is to respond. When he does, it reminds me he’s a just in time God. No emergencies in heaven. He’s not surprised or caught off guard. What a great reminder of God’s power and sovereignty.
What’s even better is that he’s good. It’s not enough that he knows my circumstances, but he cares to intervene. Sometimes it’s by changing them for me and sparing me the pain and heartacht. Other times he changes me, growing me into a stronger man. Thanks for the great post!

Karen says:

Ha ha, Chip. And that’s so true. He’s never surprised or caught off guard by anything. No matter what happens, we trust the Lord’s faithfulness, timing, and His perfect ways. Thanks for sharing your thoughts which are always intriguing.

I love this post, Karen. I’ve never thought about the idea of the calm in the Trinity while we endure hard times. So glad for that calm and authority. Thank you for this encouragement.

Karen says:

Thanks so much, Stephen. Yes, it’s calming to know that:

~ God never paces heaven’s floor.

~ Jesus never wrings His nail-scarred hands in worry.

~ The Holy Spirit never declares a state of emergency over heaven’s intercom.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Yvonne Morgan says:

This is great information because I had never thought of it before. Now this will provide me comfort when emergency arise in my life. Thanks Karen

Karen says:

You’re welcome. No matter how dire our lives may seem. Jumping on an urgent conference call is not necessary with the triune God. There’s absolutely no hint of fear, nervousness, or frenzied panic in the heavenly realm. Thanks for stopping by.

Heather Hart says:

What a beautiful reminder. “God is large and in charge.” Amen and amen. So thankful for those truths.

Karen says:

Yes, Heather, when we realize just how much the Lord is large and in charge, we can rest in Him during troubled times and always.

Scott Osgood says:

I No emergency meetings in Heaven. I love it!! I also loved the visualization from the meeting of the Trinity. Great post, and full of hope!! God bless Karen

Karen says:

Thank you, Scott. That seminary professor was certainly onto something when he said, “There’s never been an emergency meeting of the trinity.” It brings me comfort in troubled times and peace in daily life.

Alynda Long says:

Karen,

The words the Lord gives you always resonate so deeply with me. Nothing surprises our God. We worry and fret and pace and pace, but He doesn’t. I needed a reminder that He is always in charge and He never makes mistakes. Blessings to you!

Karen says:

Awe Alynda,

Thanks so much sweet friend. What a sweet thing to say. Grateful how the Lord speaks to us and reminds us of His truths and promises through everyday examples we can picture and relate to in a practical way. I know sometimes I need my very last nerve to be calmed, thus is life! 🙂 Hugs!

Nicci says:

Amen! There is so much comfort in the truth that “There’s never been an emergency meeting of the trinity.” I literally listened to a message this morning on this same topic…we may be surprised by the unexpected, but God never is. Thanks for the post!

Karen says:

Nicci, I like that. We may be surprised by the unexpected…an emergency even…but the Almighty never is. Thank you!

How often we forget the enormity and might of God – He is truly called “Almighty” for a reason! He has full and absolute power and control, and anything less than our full confidence and trust in Him is just plain silly! Thanks for the post, Karen. 🙂

Karen says:

So true, Scott.

Heaven doesn’t have emergency meetings—ever. Let the words resonate deep in your soul. No matter what happens, we trust the Lord’s faithfulness, timing, and His perfect ways.

Thanks for your insight and thoughts.

Karen I am so glad she didn’t cope the first time so that the better plan worked out–which God knew!
This is such a powerful and encouraging story to me, a reminder of when it looks bad–maybe there’s a purpose after all.
And those quotes are so good! Thank you for sharing this!

Karen says:

I know, Meg. I’m thankful too. The Lord consistently reminds me of His control, providence, and sovereignty in my life. Appreciate your comment and thoughts.

Our wonderful God watches as he sees the fruit of our “emergencies” making us more like Him. So glad He guided you to the hospital situation for your beloved daughter. Great post!

Karen says:

Your words ring true for me, Nancy. Love that the Lord is making us more like Him during our emergencies. Thanks for your thoughts.

Thank you for this! I mother like you, and our six children have put me through the wringer for the past forty years from life flights to ambulance rides to world travels on dangerous missions. I thank God for their bravery and their desire to go wide. By the grace of God, they haven’t killed me yet, even though I’m a handwringer and insomniac during their exploits and their health crises.

This post is like a tranquil walk on the beach, a blessed reminder of the reality I already know. But still, every day of my life have to remind myself, speaking it out loud, and acting in faith regardless of how I feel. God is large and in charge. There are no emergency meetings in heaven. “God never paces heaven’s floor, Jesus never wrings his nail-scarred hands, and the Holy Spirit never declares an emergency over heaven’s intercom.” This dose of heavenly reality is always needed and greatly appreciated. Preach!

Karen says:

Hey Melinda,

Wow, you sure have been through it. I’m assuming most mothers relate to me and you. And, yes, it does bring us a tranquil perspective to realize God is always and forever overseeing our lives, emergencies, and everything that happens.

Thanks so much for sharing your story.

Tim Kiser says:

What a great and perfectly timed reminder! He is the Alpha and Omega (aka Large and in Charge). Like Chip, I definitely will be using these quotes from your pastor friend. Thank you for sharing this with us all.

Karen says:

Hi Tim,

I’m just thankful the sentiments from David and his seminary professor’s quote are living on past his life on this earth…helping others. It is a powerful reminder to our unsettled hearts. Appreciate your comment.

I am visiting from the Faith on Fire link-up. What a wonderful way to put these truths! God knows everything that has happened, knew it ahead of time, and is not in a panic over it.

Karen says:

Thanks, Barbara. How peace-giving to realize God never panics and the Holy Spirit never declares a state of emergency over heaven’s intercom due to our circumstances. Peace…real peace.

Laurie says:

I feel like this story was aimed directly at me. I am a worrier and a pacer too. When our boys were teenagers, I was pacing the floor if they were even 5 minutes late for their curfew. Pastor David Landrith sounds like a wise and wonderful man. You are lucky to have known him!

Karen says:

Laurie, we are truly blessed to have known David and grateful his legacy and what his life stood for lives on today. Appreciate you visiting. 🙂

Lynn says:

I’ve been blessed to not have had to pace too much in hospitals (which is good too ’cause a bit sensitive so get ‘light-headed’ way sometimes. But I know my mind can be go pacing a lot! Just thinking about the scripture you shared–that’s He is on the throne –and picturing that my mind stills. Yes, He knows what He’s doing!

Karen says:

Lynn, that is true about how our minds may pace too. Every time I’ve paced the floor, I’m pacing on the inside too. That’s worse! And, yet, God does know what He’s doing in managing the universe and our lives day-by-day. He asks us to be still and rest in Him. Thanks for commenting.

This is a wonderful reminder, Karen! May we learn to rest in the peace of knowing that God isn’t fretting! I needed this today!

I like what you said in your comment, Stacey, the peace of knowing that God isn’t fretting! Amen. Glad this resonated with you. Appreciate you stopping by and leaving your thoughts.

Rosemarie says:

Hi Karen, great article. What you write is so true, but as a highly emotional person it takes a lot for me to wrestle my emotions down and remember the truths you write about here.

Karen says:

Hey Rosemarie,

I get that. So I’m glad the Lord offers the emotional grounding and support we need to believe and trust His truths.

Thanks for commenting.

What a calming idea. That God is in charge and no surprises or emergencies are unfolding with him on watch.

Karen says:

Yes, Theresa! What peace it brings to know God is seated on His throne. He is in control no matter what happens.

Karen, what a wonderful quote. And without an eternal perspective it make not sense. Thanks so much.

Karen says:

True, Debbie. So grateful for God’s calming truth and peace, knowing He’s forever in control and in charge of every detail of our lives!
