A No Boundaries Adventure With My Husband

A No Boundaries Adventure With My HusbandNo Boundaries.

As promised, here’s part 2 of joining my husband’s adventurous spirit. I highlight our camping trip with “No Boundaries.”

And I share the spiritual lessons I learned on this adventure.

No Boundaries Camping

But first, let me explain. Because I almost hear the sighs and see the eye-rolls. My family knows I’m never without boundaries.

“No Boundaries” (NOBO) is the name of our new travel camper. An RV by Forest River.

Years ago we had a pop-up camper and camped often. Our kids were young. And camping is a memory-building activity for both children and adults.

Recently, I looked through old pictures of all the state parks and campgrounds we visited as a family of four. Each time, for a few days to a week, we made it our home away from home.

So, when Mike desired to get back into camping, I decided to go all-in. He researched for what fit our needs—accommodating two people with a few essentials. A place for the both of us to sleep, air conditioning (a must for my husband), awning for shade, water/electrical hookups, and a pull-out section with a lock box, small refrigerator/freezer and stove top.

Mike drove to Ohio to purchase the camper, stopping in Kentucky on his way back to Tennessee to try it out overnight. Next, it was my turn to go. Yay! I looked forward to this getaway with my husband.

No Boundaries Trip

Choosing David Crockett State Park for a couple of days on our first camping adventure made sense. It’s not far from our home and the campground provides a lot of features and history.

The park lies on the Birthplace of Davy Crockett in Limestone, Tennessee. “David Crockett was a pioneer, soldier, politician and industrialist. He served as a justice of the peace, a colonel of the militia and as a state representative.”*

Besides the campground, the park includes a swimming pool, fishing on the river, boat ramp, hiking, playground, basketball court, picnic shelters, museum, and small gift shop. The gift shop came in handy for us—bug repellent and yummy ice-cream.

And I should also mention that the No Boundaries camper became the talk of the campground. Many campers and park employees commented and approached us with interest about it.

Highlights and Lessons From Our Adventure:

#1 We walked over to see the Crockett family cabin and farm where the park still keeps chickens in the chicken house and hogs in the mud pen. Smelly…but interesting reading about the details. It reminded me of how our history is His-story. God writes His adventures into the chapters of our lives. Are we all-in?

#2 Taking a stroll down to the Nolichucky River, holding hands, proved relaxing and inspiring. It reminded me how resting in the Lord brings the inspiration we need to keep moving forward in life. He holds onto us, gives us strength, and restores us.

#3 Conversation while enjoying the outdoors and night time fires roasting marshmallows, brought back camping memories. Now, we’re creating new ones. And I’m glad. It reminded me of our privilege to talk to Jesus every day. In fact, He longs for it and enjoys spending time with us.

Pleasant Boundaries From God

“He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him.” Acts 17:26-27a (ESV)

Heather Hart says:

Our family loves camping! We pitch a tent almost every summer at some point somewhere. Last year it was in the mountains of Colorado. The year before it was in a State Park in Oklahoma. Wherever we land, it’s always an adventure.

Karen says:

That sounds so adventurous, Heather. My husband used to tent camp some on his motorcycle. And tent camping can be so much fun too. 🙂 My friend like’s to tent camp, but her husband thinks Holiday Inn is roughing it. LOL. Thanks for your thoughts today.

Sydney Meek says:

This is so fun! I’ve always wanted a travel camper. I love the connections you made from your adventures – God is ALWAYS teaching us lessons, even in the smallest of ways. Thanks for this sweet reminder! 🙂

Karen says:

Yes, Sydney, seems like we are always in God’s classroom. Our history is His-story. God writes His adventures into the chapters of our lives. Thanks for commenting.

What a great reminder of allowing history to reveal God at work! I think if we did that more often, we wouldn’t fear the future so much!

Karen says:

I know, Emily. If we kept in mind that God has the helicopter view of our lives, we’d walk in assurance that He is in control now and in the future, just as He was in the past. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

What a glorious blessing to share special time with your husband! Rest, relax and enjoy God’s nature. Sounds wonderful.

Karen says:

It is wonderful, Melissa. God speaks to me not only in life’s experiences but also on adventures. And the time spent with my husband is one of the best parts. Thanks!

Lynn says:

That sounds like a fun campground with many things to do, even a swimming pool! Yes, resting in the Lord brings us inspiration and something intentionally we must remember to do!

Karen says:

It is a great place, Lynn. They even have programs and seasonal festivals. Super nice. And I agree about being intentional in resting and getaways…maybe that’s what David meant in Psalm 23 when he said our good Shepherd “makes” us lie down in green pastures.

Brittany says:

Such beautiful lessons learned out in nature. My favorite part is, “Are we all in?” I had to go back a read it because God just spent a big chunk of today asking me if I’m all in. Talk about a sign if I’ve ever seen one. Love this 💕

Karen says:

Thank you, Brittany. And that does sound like a confirmation from the Lord. All-in really implies following after Him with our whole heart. Appreciate you sharing that. 🙂

Yvonne says:

I love spending time outdoors but I have never camped. Sounds like such a fun adventure. Thanks for sharing

Karen says:

You should try it at least once, Yvonne. It is fun. And some campgrounds have small cabins you can rent as well. Thanks for commenting.

Getting away like you and your husband did does indeed a lot us the inspiration needed to move forward in life. Great post, Karen!

Karen says:

Thank you, Marcie. Getaways do keep us refreshed for life and ministry.

Boma says:

Thanks for sharing these lessons, Karen. Blessings to you.

Karen says:

You’re welcome, thanks for commenting. 🙂

This is great! We’re in the “researching the camper” phase to determine which one we’ll choose. Heading out on adventures together is something we’ve looked forward to for a long time. Thank you for sharing your story and the lessons learned!

Karen says:

Awesome, Melinda. You will not regret a second of spending time camping. It’s one of the best memory making things ever!

Liz Petruzzi says:

Hi Karen! You are so fun…I really enjoyed this. I loved seeing the photos and the spiritual truths. Great job!

Karen says:

Oh, thanks for saying that, Liz. You are so sweet with your encouragement. 🙂

Maree Dee says:

What a trooper you are. It sounds like a wonderful experience. I loved seeing the photos of your trip.

Karen says:

Thank you! I guess a trooper in this instance, but that’s not always the case. I want to be involved more where it makes sense and in the areas that make my husband happy, even fulfilling his dreams. Appreciate you stopping by and reading.

Kristi Ann says:
