Personalize and Pray Scriptures for the New Year
Many of you know how I love to personalize and pray scriptures over myself, and over my family and friends. And I encourage other believers to do the same.
Because it’s so powerful when we pray specifc Bible verses back to God. In fact, I firmly believe this led to my atheist Father accepting Christ as Lord and Savior. I faithfully prayed salvation scriptures with his name for 16 years.
Also, this practice acquaints us with the Scripture and aids in its memorization.
So let’s look at Bible verses I chose to use for the new year. Remember your name or other names go in the blanks.
(1.) Personalize and Pray for God’s Love and Fullness
Lord, “May ________ have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that ________ may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 5:18-19 ESV)
(2.) Remind Our Hearts How We are New
Father, remind ________ “that in Christ, ________ is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (Or, “Remind me that in Christ, I am a new creation.”) (2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV)
(3.) Personalize and Pray for Hope in the New Year
“May the God of hope fill _______ with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit _______ may abound in hope.” (Romans 15:13 ESV) Thank you, God. Real hope is only found in You.
"May the God of hope fill _______ with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit _______ may abound in hope.” (Romans 15:13 ESV) Share on X(4.) Pray to Trust the Lord With all Our Heart
Lord, I pray that ________ will “Trust in the Lord with all _______ (her, his) heart and lean not on ______ (her/His) own understanding; (but) in all _______ ways submit to (You), and (You) will make _______ paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV)
(5.) Personalize and Pray for the Christian Walk in the New Year
Father I pray that “In God, ________ lives and moves and has ________ (her/his) being.” (Acts 17:28 ESV)
(6.) Pray and Thank God He Crowns the Year With His Goodness
God, help _________ recoginze Your goodness in the new year and in ________ (her/his) story and life. We’re thankful “You crown the year with Your goodness, And Your paths drip with abundance.” (Psalm 65:11 NKJV)
(7.) Personalize and Pray to Obey God and Walk in His Commands
“But this command I gave them: ‘Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. And walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.’” (Jeremiah 7:23 ESV)
God, help me to hear and obey your voice and to walk in Your commands, plans, and ways.
(8.) Pray to Grow This Year in the Fruit of the Spirit
Father, I pray ________ grows daily in “the fruit of the Spirit…love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23 ESV)
Father, I pray ________ grows daily in "the fruit of the Spirit…love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23 ESV) Share on X(9.) Personalize and Pray to Meditate on God’s Word
God, reveal the importance and truth of Your Word to __________, to abide in Your Word (Jn. 8:31), light ________ path (Ps.119:105), delight in and meditate on Your Word (Ps. 1:1), and for training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).
Write the Bible verses/prayers with names (yours and others) on a notecard, sticky note, in a journal, or type out and save where you will see them. It serves as a reminder to pray and also builds our faith.
My list gives you some ideas. But the important message remains.
Prayer changes things and people. Prayer changes me and it changes you.
So pray with intention, specifics, God’s Word, and with names.
Prayer changes things and people. So it's powerful when we personalize and pray scriptures back to God for ourselves, family, and friends. Share on XHappy and blessed New Year!
